Recreational Fishing Strategy

The region’s first Recreational Fishing Strategy was adopted by council on Wednesday, August 23. The document outlines actions to manage, promote and develop our recreational fisheries until 2022.

The Strategy focuses on four key themes: infrastructure, marketing and promotion, ecology and fisheries management and business development and support.

It will benefit tourism operators, anglers and our fish stocks.

A steering group, which will encompass a range of private, public and community stakeholders, will be established to guide the delivery of the Strategy.

The Strategy was formulated after extensive consultation with more than 20 industry stakeholders.

Public comment was also forthcoming with more than 100 surveys being completed and considered during consultation.
