Upcoming site tours | Leeper Reef

All individuals, citizens, students, industry and environmental organisations are invited to participate in collecting data to go towards the Leeper Reef project. No experience or skills are necessary.

Project representatives from both Mackay Regional Council Libraries and Sarina State High School coordinate regular escorted site tours, taking into consideration tide times and conditions.

The regular meeting place is the park at the northern end of Owen Jenkins Drive, Sarina Beach. From there, the group walks down to Leeper Reef, about 550 metres. Please bring a hat, sunscreen and water bottle.

Get your hands on a Leeper Reef explore pack!

Packs are available to loan from the Sarina Library for up three days. The packs contain a GPS tracker with set coordinates for the reef and coral colonies, an information pack and colour chart from Coral Watch, information sheets on the specific corals, safety information, a ruler and a thermometer.
