The taste and tour of the tropics!

Sarina Sugar Shed offers a multi-faceted paddock-to-plate food tourism experience that highlights the rich heritage of sugar cane in the Mackay region and showcases the best of local produce through their award-winning rum and liqueur products and condiment range.

Join a one-hour guided tour and embark on a fascinating behind-the-scenes discovery where you’ll get to see and taste the action at a miniature sugar mill* and boutique distillery.

Stories of regional sugar cane pioneers and modern farming methods come to life with an expert guide who will take you on a journey through the early back-breaking days of sugar cane farming, right up to the current methods.

The tour includes a demonstration and tasting of freshly-crushed sugar cane juice and shows how sugar cane is prepared ready for refining into the sugar you buy from the supermarket.

A favourite part of every tour is the tastings! Enjoy a sample of the Sugar Shed’s award-winning rum** and rum liqueur products distilled on-premises, plus the Chefs’ Gusto range of delicious chutneys, sauces and relishes, also made on-site with fresh produce sourced from farmers in the area.

House-produced non-alcoholic ginger beer and freshly-spun fairy floss will delight the kids, while homemade Mooscoop ice cream is also available in the retail store.

Sarina Sugar Shed is open 362 days a year from 9am to 4pm (closed Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day). Guided tours run daily at 9.30am, 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm.

A 45-minute Distiller’s Sensory Experience is also available, as well as tasting-only sessions.

The café serves hot and cold beverages, plus morning tea, light lunches and cheese and tasting platters!

You’ll find ample parking for cars, caravans and coaches in the Sarina Field of Dreams Parklands, and easy, direct one-level access within the Sarina Sugar Shed.
