Critical minerals, also known as new economy minerals, refer to a group of minerals that are essential for various technological applications and play a vital role in the development and manufacturing of advanced technologies, renewable energy systems, electronic devices and defence equipment.

Opportunities

Mackay’s $7 million Resources Centre of Excellence facility provides a great opportunity for the region to become a key player in the new economy minerals sector. Another multi-million-dollar investment from the State Government will allow the research hub to expand beyond its focus on the traditional resource sector to capture, incubate and grow the industries of the future.
