A range of public and private health professionals offer general and specialist services and facilities throughout the region.

Mackay Base Hospital, the major hospital for the Central Queensland region, is about to undergo a major upgrade increasing capacity and services available in the region. The hospital is situated just four kilometres from the Mackay City Centre offering a wide range of medical and allied health services to Mackay and surrounding areas including referrals from Moranbah and parts of the Whitsunday region. The Sarina Hospital and Primary Health Care Centre is currently undergoing a major expansion and will continue to provide quality health care to the growing region.

Mater Private Hospital Mackay is a modern 105 bed facility located in North Mackay. The hospital features five operating theatres, a fully equipped day surgery unit, and a wide range of specialist clinical services. The Mackay Private Hospital is located North Mackay and is the region’s premier private rehabilitation facility.

There are plans for the construction of a new 60 bed private hospital to be built and operated by Short Stay Private Hospitals.

A number of modern and well-equipped medical centres are located throughout the region offering GP, allied health and specialist services.
