Grab your boardies and thongs and get ready to celebrate Australia Day at a council supported community event!

The Aussie themed events will take place on Australia Day, 2026 (Monday, January 26) at eleven different locations around the region. From beachside games to backyard BBQs, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!

Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony

Hosted by: Mackay Regional Council
When: 9am registration opens for a 10am start, Monday, January 26
Where: MECC auditorium
What's happening: Mayor Greg Williamson will welcome more than 90 new citizens at the MECC. Please note this event is invite only.

Armies Ozzie Day Celebrations

Where: Llewellyn Hall, Armstrong Beach
What’s happening: Get ready for a true Aussie backyard bash! Join us for a family BBQ and classic Aussie games like cricket, sack races, egg-and-spoon, and our legendary Tug of War competition. Bring your family, bring your mates, and enjoy a day of fun, laughter, and community spirit. It’s the perfect way to celebrate Australia Day

Aussie Celebrations

Hosted by: Journey House limited
When: 1pm – 5pm, Monday, January 26
Where: 4 Dawson Street Sarina
What’s happening: Join us for a family-friendly celebration packed with activities! Start the fun on the water slide, then enjoy a sizzling sausage sizzle and create treats at our cookie, lamington and fairy bread stations with prizes for the fastest, prettiest and slowest designs. Register for the water balloon race and thong throw, then dive into face painting, helium balloons, and a national anthem word puzzle inside the hall. Finish the day with exciting thong/croc throws and water balloon races. Fruit and snacks available all day.
