If you are shortlisted for a vacancy, you will be required to complete an interview with the hiring panel. Based on the availability of the panel and the applicant, the interview may be in person, or via phone or video conference.
We understand interviews can be stressful and nerve-wracking, however it is important to remember an interview is simply a conversation so we can understand more about your work experience.
Most interview questions will be based around the selection criteria from the position description. We recommend preparing for your interview and reviewing the selection criteria. It may also be useful to list specific examples or experiences you have that demonstrate your ability to meet each criteria. This can assist in prompting you during your interview.
We may also ask general questions to get to know you, such as your motivation or interest in working for council, what your strengths and weaknesses are and why you are leaving your current role.
When answering interview questions, it is important to be clear and specific when giving examples. It is important to let the panel know if you do not understand a question or would like the panel to repeat the question. An interview is a two-way conversation and you are welcome to ask questions throughout the interview.
