Waste vouchers (formally dump voucher)

Council provides a dump voucher system to help residents keep their homes and community clean.

Residential ratepayers can use these vouchers to dispose of household or green waste at any council transfer station.

How The Waste Vouchers (formally dump voucher) System Works

  • Residential property owners within the Mackay Regional Council area receive three vouchers per rates notice.
  • Landlords should pass on vouchers to their tenants for use.
  • Vouchers are valid for self-hauled green waste or non-recyclable household waste (under one tonne per visit).
  • Commercial customers cannot use vouchers - standard disposal fees apply.

Where to Find Your Vouchers

The way you receive your rates notice determines how you access your vouchers:

  • Mailed rates notices: Vouchers are included in the envelope.
  • eNotices: Log into your account to download straight to your phone or print your vouchers for safe keeping.
  • BPAY-linked rates notices: Log into your bank account, go to the BPAYVIEW section and download the PDF containing your vouchers.
  • If you’re purchasing a property and would like to use any remaining waste vouchers associated with it, please arrange to obtain these from the previous owner during the settlement process. If this is not done, new vouchers will be issued to you with your next rates notice after you become the property owner.

Voucher Usage and Restrictions

What do the vouchers cover?

Green waste:

  • One voucher = sedan, station wagon, utility vehicle (with or without a canopy), flat-top, van or trailer.

Domestic waste:

  • One voucher = sedan or station wagon.
  • Two vouchers = utility vehicle, flat-top, van or trailer.

What can’t be disposed of using vouchers?

Vouchers can’t be used for:

  • Tyres or car bodies.
  • Asbestos or regulated waste.
  • Commercial waste.

Recyclable materials must be removed at the transfer station before using a voucher to reduce landfill.

Using Your Vouchers

  • Present the voucher at the gatehouse - an officer will assess your load and determine how many vouchers are needed.
  • Not enough vouchers? You can use vouchers as partial payment and pay the remaining fee at the gatehouse.
  • Vouchers expire at the end of the six-month rating period (check the expiry date on your voucher).
  • Vouchers are property-specific and non-transferable.
  • Lost vouchers cannot be replaced.
  • Vouchers can’t be redeemed for cash or used for other council services.
  • Tenants can use dump vouchers. Landlords are encouraged to pass them on to prevent waste build-up and maintain property value.
