Council has employed a specialist contractor to conduct works on the Pioneer Pool.
The works – which will involve installing specialist earthing infrastructure under the concrete of the pool – will ensure that the pool is earthed to the current Australian standard.
Works are set to begin this week and, weather permitting, council plans to reopen the pool in the second week of August.
Ergon has also detected a fault in a council-owned switchboard that feeds a light pole in the nearby park, which has now been isolated.
The works follow council closing the community pool after several swimmers reported experiencing minor electrical tingles when touching metal fixtures.
Electricity and water are a serious combination, and council will only reopen the pool once the appropriate authorities provide formal confirmation that the site is safe for all swimmers.
Council would like to thank the community and the Pioneer Swimming Club for their patience and apologise for any disruptions caused by this extended closure.
