Young performers to feature annually in Anzac Day service
Published on 13 April 2026
Starting this year, one young performer will be selected and mentored by highly skilled musical teachers.
The inaugural singer for 2026 is Billy Anderson, who has been performing in local musicals and shows for the last few years.
He’s also been selected to perform with the prestigious Gondwana Choirs program.
The teenager from Whitsunday Anglican School said it was a great honour to be selected to sing the Australian anthem at the Anzac Day service.
“Anzac Day for me is about showing our gratitude for those who have served our country and let us live how we live today. I’m really grateful to be chosen as the performer for this service,” Billy said.
Experienced performer Maludanae ‘Muffy’ Simeon will continue to perform the New Zealand anthem at the morning service.
“I’ve done the anthems for about 14 years and it means a lot to have been able to pay homage to both sides of my heritage,” Ms Simeon said.
“People fought and died and gave themselves so we could have our freedom – this is my way of giving back,” she said.
“I love singing the national anthem and I hope to do everyone proud.”
