Mackay's Resource Recovery Centre will continue its tradition of providing employment opportunities for local people living with disability and disadvantage.
After a tender process, Outlook Australia will take over operations of the Tip Shop and Donation Drop-Off at Paget from August 1.
Mayor Greg Williamson said the popular facility was expected to continue trading during the transition period.
“Council is committed to supporting the growth of our region’s economy by prioritising local businesses and industry when procuring goods and services,” Mayor Greg Williamson said.
“Our procurement policy includes additional weighting for tenders submitted by local businesses, providing greater opportunities for them to secure council contracts and contribute to regional economic growth,” he said.
“At the same time, council remains focused on ensuring all procurement decisions deliver the best value for money for ratepayers and the broader community.”
Outlook Australia’s Queensland Regional Manager Mitch Crane said they were looking forward to working with the community to develop new initiatives around reuse and sustainability.
“Our focus is on creating inclusive employment opportunities while helping the community reduce waste through reuse and repurposing,” Mr Crane said.
“Outlook Australia’s operations create opportunities for people with a disability and those experiencing barriers to finding work and all proceeds from our reuse shops are invested back into the communities we support,” he said.
“Next week we look forward to meeting the team currently operating the shop and having genuine conversations about what it means to join Outlook Australia.”
Outlook Australia is a registered charity and currently operates 30 waste management and recycling sites across central Queensland.

Social enterprise group, Outlook will take over operations of the Resource Recovery Centre in Paget. It will continue to provide employment opportunities to people living with disability or disadvantage.
