Mackay Sporting Hall of Fame
The Mackay Regional Council Sporting Hall of Fame has been developed to recognise the regions’ residents who have made outstanding achievements in their sport, be it as an athlete, leader, official or coach.
To complete the nomination form please have ready the following information:
- List of all achievements with year and name of competition/s.
- A statement from governing body/association/or club confirming athlete resided in Mackay whilst forming their athletic career
- Examples of the nominee demonstrating exemplary integrity, sportspersonship and character
- Optional: Any support letters from club or community or newspaper articles/media releases
Eligibility criteria
Athlete:
- Be an Australian citizen; and
- Be born within, currently reside within, or have resided within the Mackay region for a significant period, such as attended school or undertaken their sporting development in the region; and
- Demonstrate exemplary integrity, sportspersonship and character; and
- Be an achiever at the highest level of competition in their chosen sport; and
- Be retired, or where still active within their sport, may not be considered for induction for at least 12-months from the date of significant achievement at the highest level.
It will be at the discretion of Mackay Regional Council as to whether an active nominee may progress.
Non-Athlete:
- Be an Australian citizen; and
- Be born within, currently reside within, or have resided within the Mackay region for a significant period, such as attended school or undertaken their sporting development in the region; and
- Demonstrate exemplary integrity, sportspersonship and character; and
- Made a defining contribution to their chosen sport.
Long term service or involvement with sport and sporting bodies without having demonstrated outstanding achievement arising from personal initiative or innovation is not sufficient justification for selection.
Nominations
- Nominations are accepted at any time, with applications considered on a quarterly basis through the Sport and Recreation Focus Group.
- Deceased persons are eligible to be nominated.
- It is the responsibility of the nominator to ensure that all available supporting documentation and/or information is provided with the nomination form.
- Incomplete nominations will not be considered.
- An unsuccessful nomination can only be reconsidered if resubmitted with additional supporting information.
Acknowledgement
Approved nominations will be formally acknowledged in the following formats:
- A certificate from the Office of the Mayor
- Name, photo and highest achievement/s to be displayed within council's online Mackay Sporting Hall of Fame, other council media, and facilities where appropriate.
Further information
Once the form has been completed and submitted, an email will be sent to the nominee (or nominee’s family if nominee is deceased) asking them to authorise the application and supply a photograph for display should the application be successful. You will also receive confirmation of submission of the application once submitted.
