Stage 3 marks a significant milestone in the project, which will see motorists notice a drastic improvement in the road surface and supporting infrastructure.
Contractor Vassallo Construction Pty Ltd will undertake Stage 3 works on behalf of council, completing the final phase of a multi-stage upgrade between the Andergrove Village Shopping Centre and Keeleys Road roundabout.
Mayor Greg Williamson thanked the community for their patience.
“We have heard loud and clear that this section of Oak Street isn’t up to scratch,” Mayor Williamson said.
“What a lot of people don’t realise though is that the deterioration of this road stems from complex underground structural problems caused by drainage issues and the failure of old stormwater infrastructure,” he said.
“The Oak Street Upgrade Project has been delivered in three key stages.
“Stage 1, completed in 2023, focused on stormwater relining to improve drainage performance.
“Stage 2, completed in 2025, delivered important underground drainage works to strengthen the network and reduce flooding impacts.
“Now, with that structural work done, Stage 3 will deliver pavement rehabilitation works, including footpath works, kerb replacement and asphalting of the road, to improve the road surface, safety and overall driving experience for residents and motorists.
“Once we are done, this part of Oak Street will feel like a new road.”
Works are expected to begin next Monday, June 8, 2026, weather permitting, and are anticipated to be completed by early November 2026.
Construction activities will take place from 6.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and 6.30am to 3pm on Saturdays, where required.
Two-lane traffic will be maintained for most of the project, with reduced speed zones in place to ensure the safety of both road users and construction crews.
To facilitate the removal of centre islands and installation of revised line marking, sections of Oak Street will temporarily operate under single-lane traffic conditions during the initial road reconfiguration works, before returning to two-lane for the duration of the project.
These works will be between 9am and 3pm and will be under temporary traffic management and reduced speed limits.
The contractor will make every effort to minimise disruption and avoid peak traffic periods wherever possible.
While works are underway, some impacts to property access are expected. Affected residents will be contacted at least 48 hours prior to any disruptions.
On-street parking within the work zone will be unavailable for the duration of the project.
