Council wishes to update the community on the ongoing clean up and recovery works following Tropical Cyclone Koji.

Water update

Council has this morning lifted the 'conserve water' advice which had been in place as part of the recovery from Tropical Cyclone Koji.
The Do Not Consume order has also been lifted for water supplies in Gargett and Pinnacle.  It is now safe to drink treated water in these areas.

Mowing

Council's outdoor crews are working hard to mow as many areas as possible.  Contractors have been engaged to help with the enormous workload following the significant rainfall over the weekend.  With rain continuing this week, some areas won't be able to be accessed due to water logging, however if you have concerns about a specific area, please lodge a customer request via Snap Send Solve or by calling 1300 MACKAY (622 529).

Mozzie (vector) control

Council’s vector control teams have already been out across the region fogging to try and reduce mosquito breeding opportunities.
They have been out in both residential areas and swampy areas, with fogging happening between 3.30am and 5.30am.  This work is highly weather dependent and cannot be done when it’s raining or there are flows in waterways.
Residents are strongly encouraged to check their yards for areas that hold water and empty any containers where water has accumulated.  While outdoors, it’s important to protect yourself with repellent and long clothing.
If you have specific concerns, please lodge a customer request via Snap Send Solve or by calling 1300 MACKAY (622 529).

Closures

The Walkerston Library remains closed until further notice.
The clean-up is continuing at the Bluewater Lagoon.  Water quality testing is currently being done and teams are working to balance levels to ensure they’re within guidelines.  It’s anticipated the facility will open by the end of the week.
Crews are continuing to assess the impacts on the Finch Hatton MTB network and currently it remains closed.  It is anticipated that there will be a staged re-opening, possibly from later this week.  Council will advise the community when the staged re-opening begins and which trails are rideable.
