A replacement viewing platform will be installed near Blacks Beach Esplanade after the current structure was damaged by vandals.

Contractor, BH Building Pty Ltd, is due to start work in mid-November and continue until March 2027, weather permitting.

As part of the works, the contractor will:

  • Install a new micromesh platform, which is fire-resistant. The platform will also include an access ramp that is DDA compliant.

  • Install two new park seats on the platform.

  • Reinstate beach protection fencing.

  • Construct a new concrete footpath from the car park at Pitt Street to the new platform.

Work will be carried out Monday to Friday, from 6.30am to 6.30pm, however earlier starts of 5am may required for concrete pours. Measures will be put in place to minimise any disturbance.

Access to the Pitt Street car park will only be closed during the concrete pours.

A pedestrian detour will be in place and signed to allow access to the beach.

Council apologies for any inconvenience caused and appreciates the community’s understanding while these works are completed.
