Grants available for business façade facelift

Published on 30 July 2024

Businesses throughout the region can again apply for a helping hand to upgrade their building fascades.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of council’s Façade Improvement initiative, which supports quality façade improvement works.

Mayor Greg Williamson said the Façade Improvement Grant was a collaborative effort between council and local property owners and business operators.

“By working together, we strive to encourage the revitalisation of commercial façades, infusing new vibrancy into the region's business districts,” Mayor Williamson said.

“Successful applicants will be eligible for a co-contribution of up to 50 per cent of the total project costs,” he said.

“Businesses can receive funding support of up to $5000, making it easier to embark on the façade enhancement projects they envision.”

The grant covers a wide range of improvement projects including:

  • Painting of façades and exterior walls visible to the public realm.
  • Restoration of historic buildings and reinstatement of exterior architectural features.
  • Installation of new business signage.
  • Renovation of entranceways, doors, tiles and other façade elements.
  • Installation of external awnings, lighting and street-visible windows.
  • Renovations that promote environmental sustainability and energy efficiencies.
  • Renovations that promote community safety and accessibility.

Mayor Williamson said council encouraged all eligible businesses to take advantage of this opportunity.

“The Façade Improvement Grant is open to all businesses throughout the Mackay region, and not just City Centre business,” Mayor Williamson said.

“We hope that by enhancing the streetscape appeal of our city and regional towns, we can attract patronage to businesses and stimulate the economy of the Mackay region,” he said.

To be eligible for a grant, applicants must meet specific criteria outlined in the guidelines, which can be found online at discovermackay.com.au/businesssupport.

Applications open on Thursday (August 1) and close on September 12, 2024.
