Infirm bin collection

Council’s assisted bin collection service is available to help eligible residents who are unable to place their wheelie bins out for collection due to medical conditions.

To be eligible, the resident must:

  • Be unable to take the bin to the kerbside due to mobility, age, illness or a mental or physical disability.
  • Not live with anyone who can take the bins to the kerbside.
  • Provide a signed certificate from a registered medical professional indicating that you are unable to place your wheelie bin out for collection.

If you, or someone you’re acting on behalf of, meet these conditions, please complete the application form below and a representative will contact you to discuss your service.

Annual renewal 

For ongoing services, the resident will be required to make contact with council to verbally acknowledge the continued need for the service when prompted by council.

Application for assisted bin collection service

A signed letter from a registered medical professional is required for this application to be processed. For faster processing, please attach the letter now rather than sending through later.

If you do not have your signed letter to attach now, please advise your medical professional to email the letter to waste.service@mackay.qld.gov.au. Your application will not be processed until the letter is received.

Infirm Bin Collection Application

Terms and conditions

1. The Applicant must:
a) Ensure access to the agreed pickup location is unrestricted and without hazard, including any gate being left unlocked, between 6am and 6pm on bin collection days.
b) Secure any animals from agreed pick up location on bin collection days.
c) Ensure that the bin lids are closed and that each bin contains only eligible waste.
d) Ensure the bins remain in the agreed collection point for collection by contactor.

2. Council’s waste contractor may refuse collection if:
a) The conditions have not been met.
b) The contractor deems that the collection of the bins is unsafe.

3. Council may suspend or terminate the service if:
a) The Applicant does not comply with these conditions.
b) Council is not reasonably satisfied that the Applicant remains eligible for the service.
c) It appears that the Applicant is no longer residing at the property.
d) Council deems that the collection of bins from inside the Applicant’s property is unsafe (you will be provided with 14 days to remedy the issue or show that you are still eligible for the service).

Council may terminate the Assisted Bin Collection Service in the event of unremedied default or not being reasonably satisfied that the Applicant remains eligible for the service.
