Community invited to share magical Mackay moments

Council is calling on locals and visitors to capture and share the moments, places and experiences that make the Mackay region special through the new Magic Meets Mackay Competition.
Launched alongside Disney: The Exhibition – A Century of Magic, the competition celebrates the unique magic found across our region, from stunning beaches and islands to rainforest adventures, wildlife encounters, family experiences and hidden local gems.
Mayor Greg Williamson said the competition was an opportunity for the community to tell Mackay's story through their own eyes.
"The Mackay region is full of incredible experiences and unforgettable moments, and we want to showcase what makes our region magical through the eyes of the people who live here and visit here," Mayor Williamson said.
"Whether it's a spectacular sunrise, a favourite family outing, a favourite meal, a breathtaking natural landscape or a special community moment, every photo and video helps showcase what makes Mackay such a wonderful place to live, work, visit and play."
To enter, participants need to share a photo or video on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok using the hashtag #MagicMeetsMackay and then register at mackay.qld.gov.au/magic-meets-mackay
Mayor Williamson said the competition would create a collection of authentic stories and imagery that celebrated the region's unique character.
"Some of the most powerful promotion comes from genuine experiences shared by real people," he said.
"This campaign will help showcase our region to those visiting for Disney: The Exhibition – A Century of Magic.
“It will highlight our diverse attractions, vibrant communities, businesses, tourism offerings and extraordinary natural environment while encouraging people to get out and explore everything our region has to offer."
Entries will be featured in an online gallery, where members of the public can vote for their favourite submissions.
More than $1500 worth of prizes are available, including a major prize package featuring four VIP tickets to Disney: The Exhibition, a Disney merchandise pack and a $350 Caneland Central gift card.
Mayor Williamson encouraged all residents and visitors over 18 to participate.
"This competition is about celebrating the places, people and experiences that make our region special," he said.
"I encourage everyone to get involved, share their favourite Mackay moments and help show the rest of Queensland why there is so much magic to discover right here in our own backyard."
The competition runs until 4pm, August 31, 2026, with winners to be announced on Mackay Regional Council's Facebook page.
