
Council's Subordinate Local Law No. 1.4 (Installation of Advertising Devices) 2011 ensures that the installation of advertising devices do not cause harm, nuisance or obstruction to the public and the surrounding environments.
Do I need approval for an advertising sign?
Council regulates advertising signs and devices to help ensure they are safe, well maintained and suitable for their surroundings.
Some advertising devices do not require approval if they meet the self-assessable criteria outlined in Subordinate Local Law No. 1.4 (Installation of Advertising Devices) 2011. These criteria cover many of the common advertising devices used throughout the Mackay region.
If your advertising device does not meet the self-assessable criteria, you will need to apply for approval below before it can be installed.

How to apply for approval
Generally, a permit is required if you intend to erect, place or remove an advertising device, banner or notice on a building, road or footpath. Please ensure you have reviewed the self-assessable criteria above.
To apply for approval, complete the Advertising Device Application Form(DOCX, 208KB) and lodge it via council’s Online Services Portal along with the relevant fee and supporting documentation.
