Join the Party in the Park to help improve child protection

Parents, carers and children are invited to Queens Park for a morning of fun, games and important conversations.
Party in the Park is held each year during Child Protection Week, which aims to raise awareness of available services to support families.
This year’s event will be held tomorrow (Wednesday, September 10) from 9am to 11.30am.
Mayor Greg Williamson said more than 30 stallholders will be on hand to provide vital information, support and advice.
“This is a tremendous event for the whole community. As we know, it takes a village to raise children and it’s wonderful to see there’s so much support available,” Mayor Williamson said.
“Parenting is a tough job and it’s helpful to know there are groups and organisations out there to support you before things reach crisis point,” he said.
Mayor Williamson said with many families feeling the impact of cost of living pressures, it was important that all activities and attractions were free.
“For the kids there’s lots of free activities --face painting, jumping castles, glitter tattoos, hair braiding and a petting zoo,” he said.
“There’s also plenty for the adults, with free coffee and sausage sizzle.”
The theme of this year’s event is Every Conversation Matters: Shifting Conversation to Action.
Mayor Williamson said the theme fit perfectly with Party in the Park.
“It’s a casual, relaxed environment where people can strike up conversations, get advice and support, and connect with others.
“The event has been specifically coordinated by our Community Programs team and the Mackay Family Support Alliance to make our community a safe, supportive environment to raise children.”
