Expo offers everything for seniors

From mobility scooters to men’s sheds, travel packages to table tennis, and home care to hearing tests – the 2019 Seniors Expo has it all.

More than 80 exhibitors will be onsite at the Big Shed in the Mackay Showgrounds for Mackay’s biggest seniors’ event.

Running from 9am to 1pm on Tuesday, August 20, the event is expected to attract more than 3000 seniors – and soon-to-be seniors.

Cr Fran Mann said the exhibitors were a mix between businesses and not-for-profit organisations – all with goods or services on offer for seniors.

“The expo is a great morning out,” Cr Mann said. “There’s everything from holidays aimed at seniors to retirement living options, healthcare and hobbies.”

“We’ve found that community members are interested in learning more about leisure and lifestyle activities as well as the more ‘practical’ considerations of growing older and staying active and healthy,” she said.

“Whether you want to get your blood pressure or hearing checked, or if you want to check out a new hobby or the latest-release mobility scooters or aids, the expo will have something for you.”

There will be free, plentiful and easy parking close to the venue and a drop-off and pick-up zone for those with mobility issues.

The Big Shed offers a spacious layout with wide walkways and a high roof to keep noise levels down.

A range of food and refreshments will be on offer, but residents will need to bring cash as there is no EFTPOS at the venue.

The Expo is an initiative of council and is proudly supported by the Daily Mercury, ABC Tropical North and PHN Northern Queensland. The Queensland Government and COTA Queensland also provided a subsidy towards the event.
