Artspace Mackay

Beautiful birds & botanicals: Family drop-in summer holiday activities
Tuesday, December 12 - Sunday, December 24
Artspace Workshop Room

Join us at the art gallery for bird art activities inspired by the wonderful William T. Cooper exhibition on now at Artspace Mackay! Families can drop-in anytime for a mix of creative activities for all ages. When you're finished creating, you can either take your art home with you, or add your creations to the big bird display! Stay for a few minutes, or a few hours, parental supervision is required. Gallery hours are 10am - 5pm Tuesday to Friday and 10am - 3pm weekends.

Bluewater Lagoon

Open 7 days, 9am – 5.45pm (excluding Christmas Day)

Cool down and splash around with the whole family at the free, three-tiered Bluewater Lagoon. Overlooking the picturesque Pioneer River in the heart of the Mackay City Centre, the facilities provide the ideal stinger-free environment for kids and adults alike. Botanic Gardens

‘Near and Far’ - An exhibition by the Creative Shots Photo Club

Lagoon Gallery, Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens

Creative Shots Photo Club through this exhibition give the viewer a display of various forms of 'personality' captured in a photographic image.  With subjects varying from inanimate objects, to places, people and animals. 'Personality' surrounds us if we take the time to see it. The Club would like all viewers to vote for their favourite image with the highest voted image being awarded "People's Choice 2017".  The winning image will be showcased in a new exhibition to be held at the Gordon White Library during February 2018.

Christmas in the Gardens: New time and new place!

Meadowlands Amphitheatre, Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens

Bring the family, bring your friends - Christmas in the Gardens is on again!

Join MC, Jay Shipston, for a great night under the stars at Meadowlands Amphitheatre with a range of local entertainers performing. Students from Fame Talent School will hit the stage, the wonderful Anette Worthington joins us again + Libby Courtice and Stephen Donaldson who will be joined by Brett Sturdy, Queensland Ballet company pianist! Food stalls open at 5.30pm and include Mackay Host Lions Food Van, Willy’s Woodfired Pizza and Buffstars coffee. Run for MI Life will be selling glow sticks and flameless candles and The Friends of the Gardens will have raffle tickets available. Christmas in the Gardens is an alcohol-free event.

'Nature’s Christmas Decorations' School Holiday Quiz

Wander through the Botanic Gardens and find some of nature’s decorations for Christmas. Find nature’s bells, baubles, stars and maybe a candle or two. There will be some questions to answer and some other hidden sparkly Christmas decorations just for fun. How many will you find? Quizzes are available from December 4 at the Botanic Gardens or online on the Botanic Gardens website www.mackayregionalbotanicgardens.com.au

Birdwatching School Holiday Quiz

Do you know all the birds in the Botanic Gardens? Spend a morning or afternoon strolling through the Gardens and try to spot as many as you can! Quizzes are available from January 8 at the Botanic Gardens or online on the Botanic Gardens website (www.mackayregionalbotanicgardens.com.au).

Nature’s Recycler’s Craft Session
Thursday, January 11 and Thursday, January 18, 2 - 4pm
Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens Meeting Room

Join us at the Gardens for craft activities inspired by nature’s resources. Children will go on a short walk with Kimberley to collect recycled resources from the Gardens and come back to the Meeting Room to get creative! When children are finished, they can take their craft home with them to display. Bookings are required, places are limited to 10 children per session, ages 5-12 years. Bulls Masters Youth Cup

Harrup Park Country Club

Following the success of the Bulls Master Country Challenge, Bulls Masters have partnered with Mackay Regional Council and the Queensland Country Cricket Association to create this Country Youth Cup. This 2017 event, for under 16 cricketers, is being held here at Harrup Park from December 11 to 16 and open to the public to watch.

Summer Reading Club

The Summer Reading Club is on again! Supercharge your summer as we celebrate sports, games, technology and team spirit. Participation in the Summer Reading Club is free and is a fun and safe program to keep the kids busy this Summer.  All children who register for the Summer Reading Club go into a national draw to win 1 of 8 iPods. There are online competitions and prizes up for grabs plus local competitions to enter at your library. Game on Robotics

Sarina Sugar Shed tours are a delight for all ages! On the tour you will see the special miniature sugar processing and distilling equipment that has been sourced from all over the world! Along with the processing mill, there are multimedia presentations, souvenir shop, picnic areas, easy parking and wheelchair-friendly access. Tours run at 9.30am, 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm, visitors will need to arrive 15 minutes prior to tour. Tours can unexpectedly fill up. To avoid disappointment, please call through to secure your booking. Entry prices are $12 - $25, family and group booking rates available. Pride of the region discount is available when proof of residency is shown. Children receive free fairy floss and non-alcoholic ginger beer as part of the tour as well as free educational handouts.
