2) Writing Workshop – The Plot Thickens
Thursday, April 12, 6pm to 7pm
Gordon White Library
Learn what it takes to write and get published with local Mackay author Sharon Johnston. Sharon is described as an author to watch out for by Wendy Higgins, USA Today and New York Times bestselling author, and has released two novels, Divided (2015) and Shattered (2016). The Plot Thickens workshop is for novice writers, bookings are essential.
3) Crazy threads, wools & fibre
Until April 15
Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 5pm
Weekends, 10am to 3pm
These Easter holidays, no matter your age, bring your friends and family to Artspace for lots of colourful fun, texture and craft in the Crazy threads, wools and fibre room. Add to the weaving wall, try your hand at string art, wrap objects with wools, or make your own pom poms & tassels to add to the collaborative display. Stay for a few minutes or a few hours, it’s free for all, no bookings necessary. (Parental supervision for children under 13 required.)

6) Michael Jackson – The Legacy Tour

7) Operation Target Tilapia: Family fishing event
Saturday, April 14 from 10am to 2pm
John Breen Park, Gooseponds
Operation Target Tilapia is a free community event run for the purpose of raising awareness about non-native/pest fish. There will be stalls and activities run by a number of local groups, as well as a jumping castle for the kids, and food and coffee for parents! Come and be a part of the Tilapia fishing competition at the Gooseponds!
8) World Slow Art Day

Slow Art Day is a global event with a simple mission: help more people discover for themselves the joy of looking at and loving art. You might be an art and gallery novice, or a regular, more experienced visitor - this event is for people of all ages, interests and backgrounds - so let’s come together and take our time to really look at art and have a relaxed and fun conversation about what we see. Gallery staff will facilitate discussion about 4 works selected for slow enjoyment, and afterwards, we’ll socialise together over a light afternoon tea. Book your seat now for this fun, free event. 9) Jayco Mackay Italian Street Party
April 14, 3pm to 9pm
Wood Street, Mackay City Centre
Come down and experience the celebration as Mackay transforms into an authentic "Little Italy"! There will be plenty of food, wine, music and entertainment with the likes of spaghetti eating competitions and pizza tossing. A kid’s area, Italian car and motorbike displays and lots more. Come along and bring your family and friends in your best Italian costume and enjoy this free event!
10) BMA Kidspace
Tuesday, April 17, 10am to 2pm
Join local artists and performers for creative art activities designed for toddlers and their adults. BMA Kidspace, Artspace Mackay’s ever popular toddler’s program, gives children under five a chance to explore and have fun with art in a climate of co-operative learning. The program includes free artist-run workshops from 10am to 2pm and live musical entertainment for kids from 12pm to 1pm. Bring your children along for a fun day of art-making, singing and dancing.

The North Queensland Games are the largest, regularly run, multi-event sporting carnival in regional Australia, as well as Australia's largest regional Games. The next NQ Games will be held in our region from May 5 to 7, 2018. It is anticipated that over 30 sports will be delivered in Mackay and the surrounding Isaac and Whitsunday regions. There will be a Games Opening Ceremony, Closing Ceremony and additional events to be confirmed.
Mackay Mazda Festival of Arts

This year’s Mackay Mazda Festival of Arts is a triumph of local arts, food and entertainment, complete with some exciting guest acts.
