Final Council in Community Day to visit Western Region

Published: 04 Nov 2019

Councillors are heading to the Western Region for the final Council in Community Day for this term of council.

Council will visit Melba House (9.30am to 10.15am) and the Mirani Board Room (4pm to 4.30pm) on Wednesday (November 6).

Cr Ross Walker said the Council in Community catch-ups had been a success.

“These informal catch-ups have allowed residents to meet with councillors in a relaxed setting to discuss issues that matter to them,” Cr Walker said.

“They also give us a great opportunity to update the community on projects and council-led initiatives in their area,” he said.

“For example, Delachantos Park at Hampton is being upgraded, Eungella has a new shared path near the school, we’ve completed considerable work on Gorge Road and we are working on a new flood camera system to allow for greater pre-planning in emergency events.”

Cr Ayril Paton said council had arranged for two catch-ups – one in the morning and one in the afternoon – to give residents the best possible chance at attending.

He said there was no need to RSVP for the community catch-ups and that everyone was welcome.

Cr Paton said councillors would have a busy day and would also be involved in a range of briefings and inspections from Walkerston through to Finch Hatton.

“We are really looking forward to chatting with local sporting clubs, farms, progress associations and facilities,” he said.

“These days allow us to keep a finger on the pulse and are especially valuable in our rural areas and outlying regions.”

Anyone unable to attend the community catch-ups can contact their locality councillors direct. Contact details are on the council website at mackay.qld.gov.au
