A three-part Christmas celebration for Sarina

Published: 24 Nov 2023

A music festival, a community Christmas fair and a special, artist-created light show will combine to make a festive extravaganza in Sarina.

Kicking off on Saturday, December 2, from 2pm to 5pm, the Bob Wood Cultural Hall Park will host a community celebration with all the trimmings.

Deputy Mayor Karen May said the fair would have a huge range of family activities.

“There will be a jumping castle, face painting, balloon twisting, glitter tattoos, a disco and kids karaoke, market stalls with local craft and creations, fairy floss, popcorn, slushies and, of course, a visit from Santa,” Cr May said.

“Everything is free, and we even have prizes for the best Christmas dress ups, so make sure you wear your colourful festive outfits,” she said.

Following the Christmas celebration, the Festival of Small Halls will kick off in the Bob Wood Cultural Hall from 5.30pm (doors open at 5pm).

Taking the stage until 8pm are the internationally acclaimed Scottish trad-trio Assynt and Queensland folk songwriter Jackie Marshall, along with local singer/songwriter Jezzie.

Cr May said it was great to have the Scottish trio in Sarina for the concert.

“The audience can expect a rousing performance with award winning musicians bringing highland music to life in a contemporary way,” she said.

“The trio is made up of Graham Mackenzie on the fiddle, David Shedden on the bagpipes and Pablo Lafuente on the guitar.”

Tickets are only $10 for adults, children under 18, pensioners and concession card holders are free. Tickets are available at Sarina Neighbourhood Centre.

The Sarina Lions club will be running a not-for-profit bar and catering at the event, with inexpensive meals on offer.

The Sarina Neighbourhood Centre has also engaged the creative talents of artists Donna Maree Robinson and Lalune Croker to deliver a magical Christmas light show using the big tree on the corner of Anzac and Broad Streets as a canvas.

The light show will be on display from in 6.30pm to 9.30pm, Friday night (December 1) and Saturday night (December 2).
