Council encourages residents to park safe to protect young riders

Published: 20 Mar 2024

Council is encouraging residents to be mindful of an influx of riders on the roads and bike paths this Friday (March 22).

Friday is National Ride to School Day, Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel, and schools in our region (from Seaforth to Sarina) will be joining more than 870 schools participating nationally.

Residents should expect young and possibly inexperienced riders to be travelling in and around schools in both the morning and afternoon.

Residents are asked to park only in designated parking areas and ensure bike paths, shared paths and thoroughfares are kept clear.

Unlawful parking can obstruct sidewalks and crossings, putting children at risk when navigating these areas.

Active transport promotes a healthy lifestyle and unobstructed pathways are essential for students cycling, walking or in wheelchairs travelling to school.

Ride2School is a nationwide program delivered by Bicycle Network, designed to support schools to encourage, empower and enable more students to get physically active on their journey to school.
