Draft strategy outlines plan to make Mackay a premier RV destination

The 2023 Mackay Region RV Strategy is now available to the public and is open for comment at mackay.qld.gov.au/rvstrategy.

The strategy seeks to position the Mackay region as the premier choice for RV travellers. Strong collaboration, strategic investments and targeted marketing efforts have been identified as essential in reaching this goal and are detailed in the strategy.

Extensive community and stakeholder engagement was conducted to create the draft strategy.

Stakeholders and travellers called for a greater diversity of RV stay options in the region.

They called for an increase in the number of sites available across the spectrum, from commercial holiday park products to low-cost, short stay sites with limited facilities.

They also wanted improved parking and short stay sites that allowed access to the CBD and major shopping centres.

In response, the Mackay Region RV Strategy recommends strategic actions that support the development of additional RV sites; improved RV infrastructure such as parking, service points and signage; and enhanced marketing efforts targeting key market segments.

Residents are encouraged to view the plan and have their say before Sunday, July 2.
