Give the gift of recognition this Australia Day

Published: 19 Dec 2023

Did you know that there’s a gift you can give that costs nothing yet means the world to those who receive it?

That gift is recognition in the form of a Mackay Regional Council Australia Day Award nomination.

Council is seeking nominations across eight categories – Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Arts and Culture, Environmental Achievement, Lori Burgess Community Volunteer, Community Group, Senior Sports Award and Young Sports Award.

Not only are these awards a sensational way to recognise the tireless work of our community volunteers, young and old, but they also give recognition to those who have excelled in sport, contributed to our region’s art and culture and worked to improve, protect and advocate for our natural environment.

The Community Group Award recognises groups that make our region a better place by the collective actions of the group’s members.

Nominating is easy and takes just minutes of your time.

The online nomination form can be found at mackay.qld.gov.au/australiaday

Hard copy nomination forms are available at council customer service centres.

Nominations close January 4, 2024.

All award winners and nominees will be recognised at a special awards gala at the MECC on Thursday, January 25, 2024.

Nominators and nominees receive complimentary tickets to the gala, which includes a two-course meal and live entertainment.
