High tea to elevate art gallery experience for special weekend

Published: 11 Aug 2023

The MECC catering and Artspace Mackay teams are excited to announce a series of trial weekend openings for the Foodspace Café.

The café will not only open next Saturday, August 19, and Sunday, August 20, from 9am to 2pm, it will also be offering a special menu item to celebrate the launch of three new exhibitions in the gallery.

Manager MECC and Events Andrew Bobeldyk said his team were excited by the opportunity to trial a weekend opening with a classy high tea.

“We will even use the Foodspace Café liquor licence so that those who want their high tea to be a little ‘bubblier’ can opt for a champagne upgrade,” Mr Bobeldyk said.

“I expect the high teas to be extremely popular, especially at the price we have them at, so I’d recommended booking a table to avoid missing out,” he said.

Bookings can be made by calling Foodspace on 4961 9719.

Artspace Mackay Director Tracey Heathwood said a weekend opening was something the Artspace team had wanted to see for some time.

“Nothing caps off a morning exploring our beautiful gallery like being able to sit down for a drink and a bite to eat with friends,” Ms Heathwood said.

“It really allows you to make a morning out of your visit and will help draw more people through the doors of our building.”

This weekend opening coincides with the opening of three exciting exhibitions at the gallery – Zanny Begg: These stories will be Different, Kara Day: Ladylike and Stephen Homewood: Turbulence.

The next two weekend openings of Foodspace Café will be during the school holidays – September 16 and 17 and September 23 and September 24.
