Huge response to Australia Day Awards nominations

The efforts of 113 locals were recognised for their achievements over the year, many of whom were nominated multiple times, with a total of 169 award nominations submitted across the eight award categories.

Deputy Mayor Karen May said it was incredible to see so many people doing such great work in our community.

“It’s been a tough year, but our region has handled adversity better than most due to the outstanding contributions of our incredible community members and community groups,” she said.

"We are looking forward to recognising their achievements at the annual Mackay Regional Council Australia Day Awards Gala, which will be held at the MECC on the eve of Australia Day (January 25).”

"We would also like to thank everyone who took the time to nominate our local heroes and help us recognise them for their hard work and generosity, which is what helps make our region such an amazing place to live.”
