Looney trio set to headline River Party

Published: 06 Dec 2021

A carrot-munching rabbit, a long-lashed canary and a piebald cat with a lisp have been booked to headline the main stage at the New Year’s Eve River Party.

Mayor Greg Williamson said council honestly didn’t know what to expect from the trio who will take over the Bluewater Quay stage on Friday, December 31.

“Look, we’re prepared for anything,” Mayor Williamson said.

“When you put Bugs Bunny, Tweety and Sylvester on a stage together, you have to expect chaos – looney, whacky, hilarious chaos,” he said.

“It’ll be a lot of fun for the whole family and there will be a few surprises for sure.

“And I’d definitely recommend you come down after the first show at 6.15pm to meet the gang and grab a photo.”

The Looney Tunes Stage Shows at 6.15pm and 8.30pm will be supported by two sensational up-and-coming local performers, Tiffany Grace Music and Kate Lockyer.

Tiffany sings an array of genres including country, pop and musical.

Tiffany started singing from the age of seven and has been performing ever since.

Her career highlights so far include entertaining stadium crowds at the Toyota Cowboys NRL home games and singing with Marina Prior and Christine Anu.

Fresh from performing at the Mackay Festival of Arts, Kate Lockyer has become an in-demand talent around the region for her chilled sets, smooth vibes and large repertoire of originals and covers.

Emceed by 4MK’s Rob Kidd, the free New Year’s Eve River Party will feature three hours of non-stop entertainment and finish with a bang thanks to the Mackay Waterfront family fireworks at 9pm.

There will then be a second Mackay Waterfront fireworks display at midnight.

Mayor Greg Williamson said the Festivals team would also be closing the end of Brisbane Street and the adjacent car park to make room for amusements and food vendors.

“There will be plenty of places to grab a bite to eat at one of the many food vendors on site while the kids enjoy amusement rides and free face painting,” he said.

The Mackay Regional Council New Year’s Eve River Party is proudly supported by Mackay Waterfront, the MECC, Star 101.9 and BB Print.
