Sport and Rec Expo getting ready for take off

The JET Group Mackay Sport and Rec Expo, scheduled for early February, is a great way for local sport and recreation clubs to find new members.

Mayor Greg Williamson said the massive event would feature more than 90 interactive sport and recreation booths.

“The event will be bigger than ever with all the crowd-favourites – interactive displays, live active-zone demonstrations and all the prizes and competitions, like nominate your favourite club and random draws,” Mayor Williamson said.

“Applications for a free booth at the popular event are currently open and we encourage local clubs, groups and organisations to get in quick to secure their spot,” he said.

“The JET Group Mackay Sport and Rec Expo will run from 9am to 1pm, Sunday, February 11, 2024.

“In an effort to make this event more inclusive and accessible, we'll also have a quiet hour from 9am to 10am.

“The planning committee has made a slight change to the event name this year, to show that it’s not just the traditional sports that can get involved.

“We’ve always wanted to target the event at a broad cross section of sport and recreation activities and this year the committee changed the name slightly to align with our event goals.”

Booth registrations close midnight Sunday, December 3.

JET Group CEO Pat McCoy said they were very excited to come on board with council for a second year as the naming rights sponsor.

“Jet Group are a very proud local business, with a long history of sponsoring local sporting clubs,” Mr McCoy said.

“Supporting the event is a great opportunity to broaden our support of grass roots sports in the Mackay region,” he said.

“The benefits of playing sport and belonging to a club or team are extensive – not only is it great for fitness and mental health, but the social benefits and personal development outcomes are huge.

“The JET Group Mackay team are looking forward to coming along on the day and having a crack at as many different sports as we can.”
