Keep your kids entertained over the summer holidays and register for the Libraries’ Summer Reading Club. Enjoy a quirky night of entertainment at Loose Ends at the MECC and then pack your chairs and your singing voices for Star 101.9 and 4MK’s Carols in the City. Children aged 10 to 17 are also invited to the Botanic Gardens’ painting competition for a chance to win!

1) 2022 Libris Awards opening

Artspace Mackay

Artspace Mackay’s biennial event, the Libris Awards, brings together works by leading and emerging artist book makers from across the country. The Awards are a chance to celebrate the art form and build on the gallery’s significant artist book collection through the competition’s acquisitive prizes. With four awards, including special categories for locally based artists and art students, the prize offers $14,500 in total prize money. 2) Summer Reading Club

Young people and families are invited to join the Summer Reading Club, which encourages summer-long reading, plus there are some fantastic local and state prizes to be won. Register for the local Summer Reading Club and visit any of our branches to pick up a Challenge Sheet. While you're there, participate in our "Find all the Koalas" and "Koalas Like To" competitions. 6) Kids painting competition

Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens

Is there a budding artist in your home? If so, here’s an opportunity for your children to have their artwork showcased in the February Lagoons Gallery Art Exhibition at the Botanic Gardens and win a $50 Wish gift card. This competition is open to children aged 10 to 17 years old. All you have to do is use your imagination to create a piece of hand painted canvas art that reflects the theme “Nature”. 10) Fifth Lane Street Activations

Every Friday, until December 17, 5pm to 8pm
Fifth Lane, between Gregory and Wood Streets

Small activations will be staged in Fifth Lane each Friday evening, ranging from face painting and musicians to Sensory Circus performers, to encourage families to visit the revamped space.
