Workshops aim to assist creative placemakers

Published: 01 Aug 2023

Getting a creative project from an idea to fruition is no easy task, but council has a series of free workshops this month that will help residents do just that.

The workshops will be facilitated by Brooke Williams from Fourfold Studio and will cover placemaking techniques, strategies and opportunities.

The workshops will be held in Sarina, Mackay, the Pioneer Valley and the Northern Beaches and will kick off on August 16.

Mayor Greg Williamson said placemaking was a way for residents to help reinvent and reimagine public spaces to make our region a more vibrant, inclusive and inspiring place to live.

“Council is passionate about placemaking and supporting communities and businesses that have great ideas,” Mayor Williamson said.

We already have our AMP Placemaking Grants, which allow residents to tap into funds (up to $30,000) to get their projects off the ground, but funding is only one step in a successful project,” he said.

“These workshops will give residents the tools to be able to tackle placemaking projects confidently.”

Workshops will take about two and a half hours and will be held in:

  • Sarina on Wednesday, August 16, from 5.15pm at The Roots Cafe, 46 Broad Street.
  • Mackay on Thursday, August 17, from 8am at Gallery 31, CQUniversity Mackay City.
  • The Pioneer Valley on Thursday, August 17, from 5.15pm at Badila Art Gallery, Pinnacle.
  • The Northern Beaches on Friday, August 18, from 9am at the Northern Beaches Bowls Club

Workshops are capped at 20 participants, so keen placemakers are encouraged to secure their spot quickly. To register, head to mackay.qld.gov.au/workshops

These workshops are supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), a partnership between the Queensland Government and Mackay Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
