Greater Whitsunday Communities (GWC)

Previously known as the Mackay Regional Council for Social Development (RSDC), a rebranding has seen a name change to the Greater Whitsunday Communities(GWC).

Recognising the need for Regional social services, GWCoM’s through the associated Council’s has partnered with GWC so that it can foster social and community development in the Mackay, Whitsunday and Isaac Regions.

GWC is a local not-for-profit community organisation established since 1974 with a core purpose of empowering people to make communities better places to live. It has, as its primary goal, that the GWC is recognised as the regional structure for community and social development issues. The Coalition has more than 30 community organisation members and covers the Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday regions.

GWC run social infrastructure investment projects and the organisation advocates as a collaborative coalition (in partnership with state and federal governments, regional councils, industry and community based organisations as well as individuals) that aims to ‘fill the gap’ in needs, improve social capital and empower people in the region.
