Membership

Conditions of library membership

  • Identification and proof of current residential address is required. Alternative membership options are available for visitors, temporary residents, non-residents, and individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Your library card is required to use library services. Download the Mackay Libraries app for a digital version of your library card.
  • Children 11 years and under must visit with a parent or guardian to join. High school students 15 and over can join independently by providing their student identification.
  • You are responsible for all items borrowed on your card. Items that are lost, damaged, or long overdue are subject to replacement charges which are not refundable.
  • Items must be returned on or before the due date, unless renewed.
  • Replacement charges will automatically apply for items long overdue.
  • Your membership may be debarred if you have outstanding charges or overdue items.
  • You must report lost or stolen library cards to Mackay Regional Council Libraries and notify of any changes to contact details.

Resident Membership

All permanent residents of the Mackay Regional Council local government area who have provided suitable identification are enrolled as Resident members.  Resident members can borrow up to 30 items for two weeks.

Upon joining as a resident member, members are required to show proof of current permanent residential address.

Acceptable forms of identification include:

*Driver’s licence
*Rates notice
*Rental lease agreement
*Recent telephone or electricity account
*Pension or Health Care Card

Library staff can assist with alternative identification.

Non-Resident Membership

Any resident of Queensland can join Mackay Regional Council Libraries. To join, members are required to show proof of their residential address. Conditions apply to some services. Non-resident members can borrow up to 10 items for two weeks.

Visitor Membership

Visitors or temporary residents are welcome to join the library under the Entry Membership category. To join, visitor members are required to show proof of their current residential address e.g. driver’s licence and a local contact address. Conditions apply to some services.
